How to Create a New Google Ads Account

Follow these 5 steps to get your Google Ads account up and running.

Setting up a Google Ads account is easy, but it does require a few steps beyond logging in. This tutorial will take you step-by-step to make sure your account is set up properly and you don’t accidentally spend some of your budget. Once you get started, you’ll notice Google will prompt you to start spending during the account creation process, but don’t stress, we’ll show you how to avoid that.

This guide will show you how to set up your Google Ads account with the following 5 steps:

  1. Sign Up for Google Ads
  2. Click “Skip the guided setup.”
  3. Click “Create an account without a campaign.”
  4. Confirm your Business Information
  5. Add your Billing Information

Step 1: Sign Up for Google Ads

The first step in creating a Google Ads account is to sign up! You can do so on the Google Ads homepage here. During the sign up flow, you can log-in with your current Google account (the one you use for Gmail, Google Docs, etc.) or if you don’t already have a general Google account, create a new one.

Step 2: Click “Skip the guided setup.”

Even if you’re not experienced with Google Ads yet, this is what you want to click. If you go the other route, you’ll be setting up a campaign and start spending immediately. Selecting “Skip the guided setup,” and following this outline will be the shortest path to getting your shell account set up without unintentionally spending money.

If you do not see the “Skip the guided setup,” link, follow these instructions for an alternate set-up process.  

Step 3: Click “Create an account without a campaign”

Step 4: Confirm your Business Information

Step 5: Add your Billing Information

By this point your account is set up. The only thing you need to do from here is add your Billing information. You can do this by clicking the “Tools” icon in the right-hand side of the top nav-bar, then selecting Billing & Payments.
